Wednesday Wisdom






Sounds weird right? Of course it does, or i wouldn't be into it at all, obviously. I love this book so much and i'm forever thankful i stumbled across it years ago, before i had any idea what my life had in store for me. I was at a pretty lame place in life, stagnating, metaphorically collecting dust. And my gemini self, is not cool with that place, not cool at all. I was straight up BORED. After working at a law firm and sitting in a cubical all day, dealing with all the same drama i dealt with in high school, i realized this was not what i wanted for the rest of my life. Beyond what i wanted,  i physically didn't think i would be able to put my feet to the floor everyday for essentially forever with a cubicle as my final resting place. 


SO as the universe tends to do, this book was "dropped off" at the most perfect time. After reading a few chapters, I started taking some quiet time in the mornings after the kids had gone to school and my husband was at work to meditate on what i really wanted in life, in the long haul. Something i've never set intentions on before, i'm NOT a planner...and that is the understatement of the century. I simply did what the book laid out, the key point was to get out of sympathetic or "stress" mode, by sitting comfortably, taking some deep breaths, doing a few countdown techniques and visualizing my happiest of happy places in regards to whatever area of my life i wanted to focus on. Dream house, dream car, dream career and so on. So i went on and did this for about a week or so what i really like about this book and what i think makes all the difference is her recommendation to go beyond visualization. She suggests to use all the senses during this practice. This sounds easy, and it really is but getting used to using my imagination was a little bit of a learning curve. I imagined first and foremost being my OWN boss, what that freedom would feel like, the smell of the essential oils i would diffuse in my office, the color paint i would have on the walls, and eventually it got faster and easier. All i knew at that time was i wanted to work in the "natural health" field....flash forward a few months and i was picked to have a free meeting with a life coach, at a holistic health center right near my office. By no means was my life in shambles, as having a life coach may suggest, but i was definitely in need of some direction and she gave me just that (plus it was free) kind of a no brainer. She suggested that i apply for chiropractic school since i could become a primary care physician here in Texas & help people without the use of drugs! yay! 

Coming off of this life coach high, i got the courage up to go for a tour. I was really impressed with the campus, the students, the passion and of course just with chiropractic in general (but thats for another post), so after a few convos with my  husband and parents i applied and was (surprisingly) accepted. Queue ecstatic and simultaneously scared sh*tless Shell. Flash forward, I'm almost a year into school and loving it although i could use a nap or 10,000. Im so stoked that i stepped out of my comfort zone thanks to this what i now believe to be Life Changing book & the help of a life coach. You can find her info here . I hope to continue my practice of creative visualization and i may even put a cliff's notes guide to this book because its just a few steps, that can make a huge difference.
